Meet Learning Coach Melissa

Melissa Hutchinson, originally from Metro Detroit but now residing in Orlando, has been in the field of education for 25 years in the roles of teacher, counselor and principal. She holds bachelor’s, master’s and Ed Specialist degrees from the University of Michigan, Wayne State University and Oakland University, respectively. She has vast professional and parental experience with students who have learning differences, divergent thinkers and those who struggle with school in non identified ways. Figuring out what works for each individual student and helping them feel success is her favorite part of being an educator!

Melissa has been married for 27 years to her husband, Robert. They are the parents of two children, Madelyn and Dominic, as well as several fur babies. In her free time, Melissa prefers to be outside, especially at the beach, and also loves to craft. She looks forward to sharing her talents with her students at KaiPod!

Meet Learning Coach Christy

Christy Fleetwood joined KaiPod Learning in 2024 and comes to us from Groveland, Florida. For over 20 years, Christy has been an educator. Christy is no stranger to working with students, having spent time working as an elementary and middle school ELA teacher, which taught her the importance of relationship building. Prior to starting her journey at KaiPod, Christy spent time working with students in Florida, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and California. A big believer in the power of literacy, Christy supports giving children opportunities to develop a genuine love of reading. Christy is qualified as an educator and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies from the University of Central Florida and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Phoenix. When Christy isn’t keeping busy with coaching students, you can find her walking the beautiful trails of Winter Garden and cheering on the UCF Knights in Orlando.

Flexible Curriculum Options

At KaiPod, we support families and students with your preferred curriculum of choice. Whether you already have a homeschool curriculum or an online program that works well for your child, we'll provide the support they need at the pod! If you are transitioning from a traditional public or private school, we’ll work with you to create a customized education plan.

For most students, this includes a self-paced curriculum so your child can learn at their own pace, moving faster or slower based on their own understanding. These options may include accredited online schools, workbook-based homeschool programs, or something even more customized.

We also offer three optional academic programs at no cost — Zearn (math for grades 3-8), Lexia (literacy for grades K-12), and Map Growth Assessments. Watch the video below to learn more!

  • Open Door Policy
At KaiPod Learning, we recognize that all students are unique and learn in different ways. Thus, we are committed to giving students the flexibility they need to maximize their learning experience. For this reason, KaiPod Learning operates on an “open door” basis. Each student may come as frequently or infrequently as they wish based on their enrolled plan. Students may come for a whole day, a partial day, or for various brief intervals throughout the course of a single day. It’s your choice. We are here to offer support when and if your student needs it.

  • Standard Enrollment Days
The standard enrollment days for our part-time enrollment plans are listed below. We are able to accommodate alternate days based on availability!

    • 2 Day Plan: Tuesday and Thursday

    • 3 Day Plan: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

    • 4 Day Plan: Monday through Thursday

  • One Semester Commitment
All KaiPod Learning enrollment plans require a one-semester commitment. This policy ensures stability and consistency for both students and the KaiPod Learning community. Semester 1 begins with the local KaiPod calendar (typically August or September) and ends on December 31st. Semester 2 starts on January 1st and ends on the last day of the local KaiPod calendar. Students who join after the school year begins are committed to a standard one-semester timeframe or a 5-month period. Withdrawal before the end of the semester commitment is not permitted after the 30-Day Happiness Guarantee period ends. Families cannot make any changes to their child’s enrollment plan during the one-semester commitment, including upgrades, downgrades, or changes in attendance days. After the one-semester commitment, families may upgrade, downgrade, or terminate their enrollment plan with 30 days' written notice.

  • One Month Happiness Guarantee
At KaiPod Learning, we want to ensure every family feels confident in their decision to join our community. That’s why we offer a 30-day Happiness Guarantee. This guarantee gives families the chance to experience KaiPod Learning risk-free while ensuring we’re the best fit for your child’s educational journey. Families have 30 days from their enrollment start date to determine if KaiPod Learning is the right fit for them. During this period, our team also assesses whether we can effectively meet your child’s needs. Due to the flexible attendance policies of our program, the 30-day period begins on the first available date of enrollment as selected in the enrollment form, not your child’s first day of attendance. The first payment of the chosen payment schedule is nonrefundable and must be paid in full at the time of enrollment. If written notice of cancellation is received within the 30-day Happiness Guarantee period, the one-semester commitment is waived. After the 30-day Happiness Guarantee period ends, families are locked into the one-semester commitment and the remaining tuition.

  • Payment Plans
For the 2025-2026 school year, KaiPod Learning offers three flexible payment schedules with discounts for semester and annual payments. All plans are based on the local 180-day academic year calendar and are prorated if a student enrolls mid-year.

    • 10 Payments Plan: The annual tuition is divided into 10 equal installments, due on the 1st of each month from August to May.

    • 2 Payments Plan (5% Discount): The annual tuition is divided into 2 equal installments with a 5% discount applied, due on August 1st and January 1st. Please note that no refunds are provided if a family downgrades their plan or withdraws before the end of the semester.

    • 1 Payment Plan (10% Discount): Annual tuition is paid in one lump sum with a 10% discount applied, due on August 1st. Please note that no refunds are provided if a family downgrades their plan or withdraws before the end of the academic year.

  • Sibling Discounts
KaiPod Learning offers sibling discounts! Sibling discounts are applied automatically to the least expensive plan for children in the same household, as follows:

    • First Child: Full Tuition

    • Second Child: 10% Discount

    • Third Child: 15% Discount

    • Fourth+ Child: 20% Discount

  • No Refunds or Makeup Days
Due to KaiPod Learning’s Open Door Policy, families are charged their selected payment plan fee regardless of student attendance. As such, no credits, prorated discounts, makeup days, or refunds are provided for sick days, missed days, vacation days, calendar holidays, or half-days.

Step Up for Students Scholarships

KaiPod Learning is an approved Step Up scholarship provider.

Learn more about the following Step Up scholarships available to all Florida families:

  • We accept the following Step Up scholarships:

If you currently have the FTC or FES-EO scholarship for private school, you must switch to PEP.

  • KaiPod is considered a homeschool service provider for the purposes of the scholarship, not a private school. As such, KaiPod Learning cannot direct bill the student's account. Instead, families must use the SUFS EMA to reserve funds.

If you are utilizing the UA scholarship with KaiPod, you will need to be registered as a homeschool student with your school district. If you are utilizing the PEP scholarship, this is not required.

  • Families can request KaiPod services through the marketplace in their Step Up account, with monthly payments deducted from your scholarship account.

Note: Scholarship families will select the “Part-Time Tutoring” service.

  • Families can request KaiPod services through the Step Up EMA marketplace, with monthly payments deducted from your scholarship account.

Please note that KaiPod Learning is unable to direct bill the student's account using the ID number. Instead, families must use the SUFS EMA to reserve funds.

  • When you request KaiPod services in the marketplace, you can add one or more months to set aside funds for KaiPod. We ask families to complete this process by the 1st of each month once funds are available in your account. (Step Up releases scholarship funds on a quarterly basis.) At the end of the month, KaiPod will process the reserved funds based on your enrollment plan.

  • Once you have submitted your Step Up application, we encourage you to enroll right away to save your spot and choose your preferred days! The KaiPod enrollment team will need a screenshot of your My Applications tab in your EMA portal to show that your application has been submitted and you are awaiting approval or funding. If for any reason your scholarship application is not approved by Step Up, we are able to cancel your enrollment.

  • To receive a discount for 1 payment (10%) or 2 payment (5%) plans, payments must be made by personal ACH and invoices submitted to Step Up for Students through the reimbursement page in their EMA account. Please note that no refunds or credit are provided for downgrades or withdrawal prior to end of the payment period.

  • While Step Up gives priority to families based on income or renewal status, all Florida families are eligible. The program is expected to grow by 40,000 families annually. For the PEP scholarship, students are able to submit their MAP testing results (available through KaiPod) at the end of the year to demonstrate their learning.
