A true learning pod experience: Student and Coach connection over 1:1 academic support

Student-Centered Experience

At KaiPod Learning, your child and their experience are central to everything we do. It guides our approach to academics, how we plan enrichments, how we think about and structure social time, and how we design all elements of the student experience in our learning pods.

  • OUR APPROACH

We believe that as parents, you know your child best. That is why we give you, as the family, the choice and power to decide what and how your child should learn. We work with you to understand your goals and support you in developing a learning plan that best serves your child. Our model was developed to allow for self-paced learning and to give your family all the flexibility and support you need. Our Learning Coaches are your partners supporting you and your child on this journey in the capacity you choose.

    DAILY SCHEDULE
Depending on the student’s age and family’s preference, students spend 3-4 hours daily in academic blocks.

Academic blocks are focused periods during which students complete academic work such as reading, completing an assignment, or watching an instructional video.

    LEARNING COACH ROLE
During academic blocks, Learning Coaches provide each child 1:1 and small-group support and ensure they are on track to meet their goals

  • OUR APPROACH
Enrichment activities help students become interested in what they are learning, which, in turn, creates engagement. That is why all of our enrichment activities are student-centered. All of our enrichments are community-based to support collaboration and a strong learning pod culture.

    DAILY SCHEDULE
Each pod does a daily enrichment activity which typically takes about 60 minutes. The Learning Coaches carefully design and plan each enrichment to guarantee it meets their students' interests and is age-appropriate and engaging.

    Examples of enrichment activities include:
    - Coming up with ideas for new products and simulating a “Shark tank” pitch to gain investment.
    - Building a bridge out of spaghetti sticks and marshmallows to learn key concepts in physics.
    - Creating a brand new board game based on the creativity and ideas of other students in the learning pod.

  • OUR APPROACH

Social time is valued and intentionally nurtured at every KaiPod learning pod. Throughout the day, our Coaches plan both structured and unstructured social time for their students. During this time, the kids connect with each other, have the opportunity to discover common interests, and develop friendships.

Our Learning Coaches are very intentional about creating a supportive and collaborative environment in their learning pod. Together with the kids, they form a close-knit community and learning pod culture.

    DAILY SCHEDULE
Our students spend 2-3 hours a day in structured or unstructured social time. KaiPod spaces are filled with board games, puzzles, and art supplies to help facilitate this time. Students will often go outside to a nearby playground or park space.

    COACH ROLE
Our Learning Coaches actively encourage students to take time away from their devices by facilitating game play and actively monitor the space to ensure that all students are included and engaged.

  • A trusting relationship with frequent communication between families, students, and Learning Coaches is an essential part of the KaiPod experience.

Our Coaches work to actively build strong relationships with students and families. They deeply know each individual student, which helps them support students in a way that makes the most sense for them.

Coaches also connect with and invite parents to be part of the community. We encourage families to suggest ideas for events and opportunities to meet and connect.

  • Our model has a lot of flexibility – you can choose a part-time or full-time enrollment plan (from 2 to 5 days per week) based on your family’s needs.

With our flexible attendance policies, you can choose when your child comes to KaiPod and what they work on when they’re with us. You’re always in control of your child’s schedule and learning plan.

Frequently
Asked Questions

  • Each of our KaiPod locations supports a group of students who meet in-person at a KaiPod learning pod to learn together, collaborate, and socialize with the support of a dedicated KaiPod Learning Coach.

KaiPod Learning is designed for students in 3rd-12th grade. To ensure a small group learning environment, we limit each learning pod (one lower and one upper) to a maximum of 12 students per day. Each pod is supported by an experienced KaiPod Learning Coach — a 12:1 ratio!

While at the KaiPod learning pod, students work on their curriculum with the support of their KaiPod Learning Coach, participate in tailored enrichment activities, and socialize with their peers. Because our program is so individualized, every day at KaiPod is different.

  • KaiPod Learning is pushing the boundaries of what we mean by ‘school.’

For families leaving traditional schools, KaiPod can take the best and leave the rest. We provide both part-time and full-week options, individualized academic support for any curriculum of your choice, and engaging learning activities and clubs.

For those interested in greater flexibility, KaiPod offers part-time options and a wide variety of curriculum resources for your child’s unique needs.

For all families, KaiPod is your partner in taking charge of your child’s learning and building a customized educational plan to meet your needs.

  • KaiPod Learning Coaches are former classroom teachers or tutors with expertise working with small groups and a passion for individualized learning. We review hundreds of applications to hire only the most inspiring and supportive coaches.

Every day, KaiPod Learning Coaches provide individual academic support and facilitate positive social dynamics. KaiPod Learning Coaches also teach executive functioning skills, such as time management, goal setting, and note-taking. They always integrate student passions into their enrichment activities.

Every KaiPod Learning Coach undergoes a comprehensive background check, CPR/First Aid certification, and KaiPod Learning’s own rigorous training and professional development.

  • KaiPod learning pods are designed for students in 3rd-12th grade. Most of our locations have separate groups for younger and older students.

  • KaiPod Learning is designed to adapt to your family’s needs, not the other way around. For students transitioning from traditional public or private schools, we strongly recommend the full-time plan where your child attends a KaiPod learning pod five days per week from 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM. In some locations, after care support may also be available.

For families who want more flexibility, you can choose a part-time option (as little as 2-days a week) and customize your own daily start and end times!

  • If you are transitioning from a traditional public or private school, we will work with you to create a customized education plan for your child. For most students, this includes a self-paced curriculum so your child can learn at their own pace, moving faster or slower based on their own understanding. These options may include accredited online schools, workbook-based homeschool programs, or something even more customized.

Our academic team can provide private consultations to recommend resources that align with your family’s education goals and your child’s learning needs.

  • Definitely not!

A typical day in a KaiPod learning pod is a mix of academic time and collaborative time. During academic time, students may spend up to 2-3 hours a day on an online platform. However, since we work with you to develop a customized education plan, we can align the program with your desires with regards to screen time.

During collaborative time, the KaiPod Learning Coaches encourage all students to go screen-free and go outdoors, play board games, and just interact with their peers.

  • KaiPod Learning is the in-person supplement to the family’s school or curriculum of choice. So, if your child is enrolled in an accredited online school, they will receive a diploma and transcript from their online school of record.

  • Not necessarily!

We work with you to develop your child’s personalized learning plan based on your family’s education goals and your child’s learning needs. If your child is enrolled in an accredited online school, they will not need to register as a homeschooler. On the other hand, if you choose a homeschool curriculum, we can help you register as a homeschool family in your state.

  • We offer flexible plans and pricing varies by location. Please view your local KaiPod Learning pod's page to see pricing in your area.

Scholarships are available based on financial need. Depending on your state, you may be able to use your Education Savings Account (ESA) or scholarship funds towards KaiPod Learning fees.
